Overview

Belfast’s iconic Waterfront was built in 1997, and is one of Northern Ireland’s most recognisable and loved concert, exhibition and event venues. It runs a comprehensive entertainment programme and hosts regular conferences and business meetings. In 2012, plans were announced for the development of additional integrated event space at the Waterfront. The £29.5m project is now complete, adding an additional 4000m² of event space.

The Challenge

The new Belfast Waterfront website was to remain focused on the traditional entertainment sector, but also fully support and promote the venue’s new conference market, both utilizing online ticketing. Appropriate user journeys were enabled for each user type in user experience workshops facilitated by i3 Digital. The main challenge was to reposition the venue in line with its new business model, and generate quality sales enquiries that converted to venue booking and online ticket sales. Vitally, the website was to recognize and accommodate all the key audience groups, and provide easily-accessible, real-time information pertinent to their various requirements. The overall challenge was to ensure the new website matched the venue’s era-defining extension and delivered the optimum user experience to users.

The Solution

Appropriate user journeys were enabled for each user type in user experience workshops facilitated by i3 Digital. Through a detailed knowledge of our client and first-class Kentico development skills, i3 Digital implemented the build of a world-class Kentico website. We incorporated some of Kentico’s most effective tools and processes, which are visible as soon as the user opens the Home Page. The usage of Banner Management and Image carousels add depth, and visually interesting web pages showcase the Waterfront’s outstanding event and exhibition space, which rivals the very best in the world.

The event and conference rooms are listed and use filters, and Kentico widgets add a newsletter subscription tool, and provide users with latest news stories. The site also maximizes the impact of news listings and FAQ’s in accordion formats, as well as standard HTML page content.

The Result

In the same way the venue itself has, the Waterfront website’s adopts a cleaner, modern, exponentially more engaging look and feel than its predecessor! It includes functionality and features absolutely crucial to current and future requirements surrounding events, media releases, latest news, a world-class media library and conference booking information.
